Good Law Project is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy sets out the information we collect when you visit or use the website. We reserve the right to update this privacy policy, and you should check this page frequently.
We aim to ensure that all information from which you can be identified – also known as personal information – is handled in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998, and from 25th May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation. The information that we collect
We sometimes need to collect personal information about you:
– If you subscribe to our newsletter, your first name, surname and email address is added to our mailing list. Our mailing lists are managed through NationBuilder (their privacy policy can be accessed here).
– If you sign a petition on the site, we store the data that you provide us, and your first name, surname, email address, country and postcode is also added to our mailing list. Our mailing lists are managed through NationBuilder.
– If you correspond with us, either by email or by another form of communication, your message may include your name, address, email address and telephone number, as well as other personal information.
– If you set up a monthly direct debit or make a one-off payment, you will be directed to gocardless.com (their privacy policy can be accessed here) or PayPal (for their privacy policy, see here). You will be asked to enter your first name, surname, email address, sort code, account number, address and postcode, as well as the last few digits of your bank card.
– If you participate in surveys designed to collect information for campaigning purposes, to strengthen legal cases, improve our understanding of our supporters and ensure our communications are more effective. Our surveys are processed through 123 Form Builder (their privacy policy can be accessed here).

How we use the information and the legal basis
We may use the information about you for the following purposes:
– To inform and to update you about our work at Good Law Project via email. The legal basis is consent under Article 6(1)(a). If you wish to unsubscribe from our newsletter, please see below.
– To analyze donations and our financial performance and contact individuals about donations. The legal basis is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f).
– To respond to enquiries via phone and email. The legal basis is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f).
– For campaigning purposes to achieve our mission. Information collected as part of the Windrush Compensation Scheme survey will be anonymised and shared with Windrush Lives to communicate key messages. The legal basis is legitimate interest.
– To strengthen our legal cases to achieve our mission. Information collected as part of the Windrush Compensation scheme will be anonymised and shared with our lawyers to strengthen the legal case. The legal basis is legitimate interest under Article 6 (1)(f).
– To ensure our communication with you is relevant, timely and will ultimately provide a better experience for you and make our campaigns more impactful, we may build up a profile of you based on the interactions you have had with Good Law Project.
This profiling may include details of your past engagement with Good Law Project together with information gathered from sources detailed elsewhere in this Privacy Policy. For example, in deciding who to email about a local environmental legal challenge, we might look at which supporters have supported similar campaigns, which supporters live in the affected constituencies and which supporters have told us they care about this issue in surveys. This enables Good Law Project to most effectively target relevant information and appropriate requests for support. The legal basis is legitimate interest under Article 6 (1)(f). This does not affect any of your rights or limit you in how you can get involved with us and our campaigns. You may opt out of profiling at any time by contacting us using the details at the bottom of this policy.
– On occasion we may process special category data, including health information, ethnicity and political opinions. We would only collect sensitive personal data if there is a clear reason for doing so and will only do so with your explicit consent.
Disclosure and transfer of personal information
Good Law Project will never sell your personal information. We will also not pass on your personal information to third parties except where it is both necessary and in accordance with this privacy policy. It will be necessary for us to share your personal information with:
– Organisations that help us process donations
– Organisations that help us develop and maintain our website and mailing lists, including Zapier and Meta
– Organisations that help us collect and process survey data
– Government bodies such as HMRC
– Where we are required by law to disclose personal information
– We will share anonymous information with Windrush Lives to achieve impact on our campaign to improve the Windrush Compensation Scheme
We will share anonymous information with our lawyers to strengthen our legal challenge against the Home Office over the Windrush Compensation scheme.

Every email update contains an unsubscribe link in the footer. By unsubscribing, this automatically takes you off the list and you will not be emailed again by Good Law Project.

Your rights
You have the right to access your personal data we may hold on you, and you have the right to require inaccurate personal data to be corrected. You also have the right to have your personal data deleted and the right to restrict the processing of your data in certain circumstances. Retention
We will retain your personal information until we no longer need it as defined by our operational needs, or until you ask us to remove your details.
